Sweet Briar tennis did not lose a match Monday as the Vixens concluded their fall season by defeating visiting Randolph-Macon Woman's College 9-0 in the varsity match and 14-0 overall. The Vixens came out on top in all six singles matches, with five of the six going to Sweet Briar in straight sets. The lone match to go into a tiebreaker was at No. 5 singles as senior Kate Campanale (Cherry Valley, MA/Leicester) came back from a first-set loss to defeat Ashley Yount 5-7, 6-1, 10-7.
Sweet Briar’s winning continued into doubles. Off two straight tournament wins, the doubles team of Caroline Byrd ’08 (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) and Virginia Edahl ’10 (Charlotte, NC/Providence) took No. 1 doubles 8-1. Brady Phillips ’10 (Mexia, TX/Mexia) and Carlyle Eden took the No. 2 match by an 8-0 score and the Vixen pair of Campanale and Cheryl Seaver ’09 (Burtonsville, MD/James Hubert Blake) completed the shutout with an 8-1 win at No. 3
Today’s match wrapped up Sweet Briar’s fall schedule. The Vixens kick off the spring season on the road at Salem College on Feb. 25.
