Forty-eight members of the Class of 2009 will be inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta on Oct. 14.

Alpha Lambda Delta is a national society that honors academic excellence during a student’s first year in college.

Founded as an honorary society for freshmen at the University of Illinois in 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta’s purpose is to encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first year in institutions of higher education, to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist women and men in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their roles in society.

To become a member, a freshman must achieve a 3.5 grade point average or better either during the fall semester or cumulatively during their first year. The student also must be enrolled in a full-time degree program.
