The 18th-ranked Washington and Lee Generals scored four goals in the final 26 minutes Tuesday to hand host Sweet Briar College a 6-0 loss. With the loss, the Vixens’ season record goes to 2-10 overall with three games remaining in the regular season. The Generals improve to 10-0-2.
After giving up a quick goal in the first minute of play, the Sweet Briar defense rebounded to hold the Generals to just two goals through 64 minutes. But the Generals' offense came alive at the 26-minute mark; kick started by Maggie Megear's goal at 25:37. Three minutes later Shana Oltmans found the net, followed by two goals from Erica Giordano in the 82nd and 84th minutes.
Vixen goalie Kristen Johnson ’09 (Federal Way, WA/Decatur) stayed busy in the game as Washington and Lee took 37 shots. Johnson turned back 11 shots in the game.
"The team recovered very well from giving up such a poor goal so early in the game. Unfortunately, we had a team letdown in the last 30 minutes. Poor concentration and effort against a strong team will get you punished," commented coach Shaw.
Sweet Briar continues its homestand this weekend as the Vixens face Hollins University at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
