Sweet Briar, VA-The Washington and Lee Generals, top-ranked in the region, jumped out to a four-goal lead today and went on to defeat Sweet Briar 16-7. The Vixens came into the game riding a three-game win streak, but coach Missy Ackerman said, "W&L is too good a team to give the advantage of turnovers. When we controlled that and the center draw, we could play to our potential, but there were too many minutes when we did not play up."
SBC goalkeeper Emily Fitzpatrick '07 (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) had 10 saves. First year attacker Bethany Bressan (Charlottesville, VA/STAB) scored three. Seniors Karah Strawley (Charlottesville, VA/Covenant), Amanda Swan (Garrison, NY/John Jay HS) and co-captain Ginger Tripp (Richmond, VA/St. Catherine's) played their last home game. The Generals' K. Evans led all scorers with five.
Sweet Briar falls to 8-4 on the season, 3-3 in the ODAC. They play the Alumnae tomorrow at 1 pm and are at Lynchburg April 13 for a 4 pm ODAC contest.
