Sweet Briar College lacrosse opened conference play Saturday with a 13-7 loss at Virginia Wesleyan. With the loss, the Vixens fall to 0-2 on the season.
Sweet Briar worked its way to a 5-5 tie, but gave up three quick goals to trail 8-5 at the break. First-year Ellie Donahue (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal)
led the Vixens with five goals. Bethany Bressan '08(Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's Belfield) picked up two. Julie Sellers '06(Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk
Academy) and Ginger Tripp '05(Richmond, VA/St. Catherines) each had an assist.
"We played well as a team, but turnovers late in the second half hurt our momentum to rally," said head coach Missy Ackerman about the team's performance.
Sweet Briar is back in action tomorrow, when they take on Christopher Newport University in a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
