Sweet Briar lacrosse could not come back from a 5-0 deficit Wednesday, falling to Lynchburg College 15-8 on the road. The loss puts the Vixens at 3-4 in the conference with one game left to play.
The Hornets scored five unanswered goals before first-year Bethany Bressan (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne’s Belfield) put one between the pipes. The Vixens added four more in the half, including Ellie Donahue’s ’08 (Richmond, VA/ Trinity Episcopal) goal with 25 seconds to play that pulled Sweet Briar to 9-5 at the break. But Sweet Briar could not stop Lynchburg’s offense, as the Hornets scored six more times in the second half. Bressan finished the game with five goals. Sarah Ross Stewart ’08 (Lexington, VA/Virginia Episcopal) picked up two goals and one assist.
Sweet Briar is on the road again Friday, as they travel to Roanoke to face the Maroons at 4:30 p.m.
