Sweet Briar College junior goalkeeper Jenn Wiley (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown HS) was named for the third consecutive season by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) to the College Division All-State field hockey first team. Wiley has been first team All-Conference in the ODAC each of her three collegiate seasons. Her three-year save total of 779 (254, 291, 234) ranks her 5th all-time in Division III and is a school record for career saves. This season's 234 save total was second in the nation for Division III. Coach Jennifer Crispen describes Wiley as "a field general who at 5-1 plays much bigger, recording her best games against the better teams in our region. You could not ask for more intensity and commitment in a player, both on the field and in the classroom."
Wiley is a biology major. She will co-captain Sweet Briar's lacrosse team this spring with Ginger Tripp '05 (Richmond, VA/St. Catherine's), also named to the All-State first team College Division as a mid fielder. Tripp received ODAC All-Conference first team honors this fall and led the ODAC in assists, ranking 12th nationally in Division III. Crispen says, "Ginger Tripp is a smart, versatile player, totally unselfish and team-oriented. Had we been able to play her as a forward throughout her career here, she would undoubtedly hold all our Sweet Briar records. Instead, she's played anywhere we've needed her, from back to forward without hesitation. It's a tribute to the background she received playing at St. Catherine's and to her determination."
Tripp is a liberal studies major, working toward teaching licensure, and will return to Sweet Briar next year as a candidate for the master's degree in education. Said Crispen, "We hope to have her back as a coaching assistant, an extra bonus.
