The Sweet Briar swimming team split two competitions on the weekend, losing 140-60 at Randolph-Macon in Ashland, and downing the College of Notre Dame of Maryland 61-34. Coach Jason Gallaher said the his swimmers are going well for this early in the season and he is pleased with their swims. "We asked a lot of people to swim different events this weekend and that resulted in the win today in Baltimore." Against the Yellowjackets of Randolph-Macon, Nicole Snyder '08 (Manassas, VA/Osbourn HS) swam a strong 1000 yard freestyle and won by 3 seconds in 11.19:27. Today at Notre Dame, Snyder won the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle, and anchored the winning 200 yard medley relay team with Kelsey Jeffers '07 (Falls Church, VA/Falls Church HS), Katie Walsh '08 (Yorktown, VA/Peninsula Catholic) and Brittany Carlton '08 (Warrenton, VA/Highland School). Jeffers took the 200 IM and 200 backstroke, Carlton the 200 breast stroke, and Walsh finished a strong second in the 1000 yard freestyle to teammate Leigh Darrell '06 (Chestertown, MD/Queen Anne's County). Sweet Briar is 1-1 in the ODAC and 2-1 overall. They host Randolph-Macon Woman's College on November 5 in an ODAC match at 6 pm.
