Eighth-seeded Sweet Briar College held top-seeded Lynchburg scoreless for the first 19 minutes in Today's quarterfinal field hockey action at Lynchburg before losing 7-0. Andrea Fleming, the ODAC scoring leader, broke the ice with an assist from Kara Culkin. She would be held to two on the day. The Vixens' Jenn Wiley (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown HS) turned back 26 in the nets to keep her team in the game. The junior keeper finished the season with 234, the third consecutive year she has recorded over 200 saves. Lynchburg led at the half 3-0; they move on in ODAC action to host the semi and final rounds Friday and Saturday, November 6 & 7. The Hornets will play the winner of Roanoke/Eastern Mennonite. First year defender Catherine Cox (Prince Frederick, MD/Calverton) tirned in her best game of the season. Three SBC seniors dressed for their final game for the Vixens. Midfielder Ginger Tripp (Richmond, VA/St. Catherines) and back Susanna Knouse (Washington, DC/Fort Worth Country Day School) both had solid games in the backfield. Senior co-captain Beth Farnsworth (Grafton, MA/Grafton HS) was sidelined with an injury. Coach Jennifer Crispen said, "You can't tell by the score, but this team has made enormous strides in developing as a unit. Twelve of our fifteen players adjusted to at least one change of position over the course of the season. Along the way, we played better at both ends of the field. You could see our improvement in the frustration we created in Andrea Fleming and the fact that LC's scoring was spread among six different players." Sweet Briar finishes the season 7-12.
