Sweet Briar College lost their last home game of the season Sunday, 4-1 to Virginia Wesleyan College. For seniors Ashley Forehand (Prince George, VA/Prince George) and Kathryn Strong (Beverly Hills, MI/Groves) it was the last game they will play on campus. Virginia Wesleyan led at half 3-0 on goals by Rachel Maranitz (8:37) off a corner kick, Missy Huhns (37:28), and Christina Smith (41:14). Sweet Briar's defense came out strong in the second half, surrendering just one goal. The Marlins scored when Rachel Maranitz knocked in a ball deflected by Vixens' keeper Abby Brown '08 (Copper Canyon, TX/Marcus). Brown had 14 saves in the game. The Vixens avoided the shutout late in the second half. Forehand redirected the ball past the Marlins' keeper on a feed from sophomore Vicky Gadikian (Hamburg, NY/Frontier), with under four minutes to play. Sweet Briar's last game of the season is Tuesday at Lynchburg College.
