The Sweet Briar field hockey team held Hollins University to zero shots in 4-0 win Friday. With the win, the Vixens improve to 7-10 on the season. All four Sweet Briar goals came in the first half. Michelle Badger (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth South) started the scoring on a pass from freshman Ellie Donahue (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal). Julie Drake (San Jose, CA/Willow Glen) netted two more, connecting on a pass from Ginger Tripp (Richmond, VA/St. Catherine's) and carrying the ball to the cage for an unassisted goal. Freshman Megan Manubay (Bear, DE/Caravel) picked up her second goal since moving to forward. She scored Sweet Briar's fourth goal on an assist from Tripp. Head coach Jennifer Crispen commented, ?This was the last varsity field hockey competition between Hollins and Sweet Briar and it has been a long running rivalry. It is one of the oldest in the state.? Hollins will not field a varsity field hockey team next season. Sweet Briar plays its last regular season match on Oct. 27. They face the Maroons of Roanoke College at 3 p.m.
