Sweet Briar field hockey's last home game of the season did not go as planned, losing 4-2 to Eastern Mennonite University Tuesday. For seniors Ginger Tripp (Richmond, VA/St. Catherine's) and Sue Knouse (Washington, DC/Fort Worth CDS) it was their last field hockey game at Sweet Briar. Megan Manubay (Bear, DE/Caravel) gave Sweet Briar the lead just before halftime. The freshman goalkeeper playing her first game at forward, connected on a pass from Tripp with 4:20 left in the half. Both teams came out strong in the second half. EMU tied the game and then took the lead midway through the half on Jonalyn Denlinger's two goals. Sweet Briar answered four minutes later on a shot from Julie Drake ?07 (San Jose, CA/Willow Glen) to knot the game at 2 all. That score remained, until Kristie Souder put the game-winner in the net for EMU. The Vixens gave up a late goal with just over a minute to play, as they pushed forward for the tie. ?This was another step forward for us to play this well against a quality team in the conference,? said coach Jennifer Crispen. The Vixens have two games left in the regular season. They travel to Hollins Friday and are at Roanoke Oct. 27.
