Sweet Briar field hockey came up one goal short in their comeback effort Saturday, losing 3-2 to non-conference Sewanee on Families' Weekend. The Vixens were down 2-0 at halftime but tied the game in the second half on two penalty corner goals by Ginger Tripp '05(Richmond, VA/St. Catherine's) at 29:03 and Paula Kirkland ?07(Glen Allen, VA/St. Gertrude's) assisted by Tripp at 22:43. Sweet Briar played well on both sides of the field, but a defensive miscue allowed Sewanee the game-winning goal with under 10 minutes to play. Jenn Wiley '06 (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) had 19 saves in goal, allowing two goals. Freshman Megan Manubay (Bear, DE/Caravel) took over the Vixen net into the second half. She picked up two saves and allowed one goal. ?This was a tough way to end a good week, but when you dig a whole in the first half you have to give it everything just to pull even,? said coach Jennifer Crispen. Sweet Briar looks to get back in the win column Tuesday when they face Eastern Mennonite at 4:30 p.m.
