Sweet Briar College lost 5-1 to the University of Mary Washington Saturday, in a non-conference field hockey match. Mary Washington scored four unanswered goals in the first half, before Ginger Tripp ?06(Richmond, VA/St. Catherines) put the Vixens on the board on a penalty stroke five minutes into the second half. The Eagles answered minutes later with their fifth and final goal of the match. Brynn Maquire scored twice for Mary Washington. Julie Drake '06 (San Jose, CA/Willow Glen) was solid at forward and Paula Kirkland '06(Glen Allen, VA/St. Gertrudes )was strong in defense for Sweet Briar. ?This was a tough game against a very good opponent,? said coach Jennifer Crispen. ?We played a scattered first half but produced better transition and support in the second half.? The Vixens are home again Monday against Bryn Mawr College at 4 p.m.
