Whitney Shaffer's '08 (Norfolk, VA/Maury) goal on a cross from Ashley Forehand '05 (Prince George, VA/Prince George) gave Sweet Briar the 1-0 win Saturday against Bridgewater College.

The game was tied 0-0 at the half and remained tied until Shaffer's goal in the 51st minute. Bridgewater out shot the Vixens 20-11 for the game. Abby Brown '08 (Copper Canyon, TX/Marcus) had 15 saves in goal for Sweet Briar, picking up her third shutout and second in conference play. Coach Paul Shaw said, ?Abby made a big time save in the first half, which gave us self belief to keep battling. We took the goal very well but are still giving away chances and missing breakaways. Great effort from our first year players and leadership displayed from returning players.? With the win the Vixens are now 2-3 in the ODAC. Bridgewater falls to 1-4 in the conference. Sweet Briar has not won two games against ODAC teams since 1998. The Vixens are home again Wednesday against Randolph-Macon College at 4:30 p.m.
