Sweet Briar field hockey lost Wednesday to cross- town rival Lynchburg College 7-1. The game was a make-up for yesterday's rainout. Lynchburg led at the half 3-0 on goals from Andrea Fleming (2) and Kara Culkin. The Hornets had a shutout going in the second half until junior Julie Drake (San Jose, CA/Willow Glen) scored on a pass from Beth Farnsworth '05 (Grafton, MA/Grafton)with 18 minutes left in the game. Morgan Crandall, Ariana Kleeman, Laura Christianson, and Andrea Fleming each added goals for Lynchburg in the second half. Fleming's goal with five minutes left in the game gave her the hat trick. With the win Lynchburg is now 7-3 for the season. Jenn Wiley '07 (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) had 22 saves in goal for the Vixens. Coach Jennifer Crispen said, ?We played a stronger second half allowing Lynchburg only one defensive corner. In the first half goalkeeper Jenn Wiley made two incredible saves on high balls.? Sweet Briar is on the road this weekend for games at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Nichols College in Massachusetts. They return home against Randolph-Macon Oct. 6.
