Human rights activist and repeat Oprah guest Tererai Trent will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Memorial Chapel at Sweet Briar College. Her lecture is presented in conjunction with the College’s 2013 Common Reading selection, “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.”
Reading can be a passive and solitary pastime, but not if nearly everyone on campus is captivated by the same book — nor if that book challenges us to see the world from someone else’s perspective. Sweet Briar’s 2013 Common Reading selection is meant to do just that and more: to spark discussion, but also action.
Whitney Johnson, author of “Dare, Dream, Do: Remarkable Things Happen When You Dare to Dream,” will speak about her book at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29 in Murchison Lane Auditorium at Sweet Briar College. The lecture is free and open to the public.
