On Sunday, Dec. 7, the Sweet Briar choirs and orchestra presented a Service of Nine Lessons and Carols for Christmastide in Memorial Chapel. I was honored to join Chaplain Dori Baker in presiding over the service, and I am pleased to share some highlights with you in this video.
Mary “Frère” Murchison Gornto ’69 and her daughter, Catherine Gornto Freeman ’92, make regular annual gifts to the College. Gornto believes December is a good time of year to be thinking about — and supporting — others.
Shirley Hauseman Nordhem ’42 considered her education at Sweet Briar “a gift” from her parents, according to her daughter Julie Nordhem Stevens. Throughout her life, she remained committed to repaying that gift by supporting the College.
The Sweet Briar College Board of Directors just concluded its fall meeting. At that meeting, Elizabeth Wyatt ‘69, vice chair of the Board of Directors, and chair of the Strategic Planning Initiative Working Group, reported to the full Board on the status of the group’s progress.
Sweet Briar students and other fans of Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Jane Smiley glimpsed the spirit of a writer yesterday evening in the College’s Memorial Chapel — along with sneak previews of not one but two of her forthcoming novels.
