When Holly Rueger’s plane took off for Burkina Faso in January, she had a pretty clear vision of what her Pannell project would look like. She would study nongovernmental organizations in the West African country, find out what makes them successful, and figure out how such aid programs can help — “rather than hinder” — communities.
Students from the local community will showcase their choreography in the 20th anniversary Sweet Briar College Community Youth Dance Recital at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 9, in Murchison Lane Auditorium at Babcock Fine Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
After living and breathing dance for the past four years, three Sweet Briar seniors will share the results of their hard work in a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, and Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Upper Dance Studio in the Babcock Fine Arts Center.
Lynnette Overby, a professor of theater and dance at the University of Delaware, will present a talk about her multidisciplinary work “Dave the Potter” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in Pannell Gallery. Her lecture is free and open to the public.
Betty Skeen, a 2007 alumna of Sweet Briar’s Dance program, will direct the College’s Spring Dance Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26, in Murchison Lane Auditorium.
