Sweet Briar College will present a lecture by Deogratias “Deo” Niyizonkiza at 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12 in Memorial Chapel. Admission is free and open to the public.
Human rights activist and repeat Oprah guest Tererai Trent will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Memorial Chapel at Sweet Briar College. Her lecture is presented in conjunction with the College’s 2013 Common Reading selection, “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.”
Reading can be a passive and solitary pastime, but not if nearly everyone on campus is captivated by the same book — nor if that book challenges us to see the world from someone else’s perspective. Sweet Briar’s 2013 Common Reading selection is meant to do just that and more: to spark discussion, but also action.
