Marketing Students Develop Plans for Local Businesses

This semester, students in Ashley Blanchard’s fundamentals of marketing class put their knowledge to the test in a practical way, designing marketing plans for several area businesses.

Clients included Meriwether’s restaurant, The Farm Basket, Acorn Hill Lodge, Artifacts Gallery, the Amherst County Humane Society, Paperbuzz and “Lynchburg 100: An Illustrated Guide to Lynchburg Landmarks,” a book by S. Allen Chambers Jr. and Nancy Blackwell Marion, a 1974 graduate of Sweet Briar.

Plans also were completed for two out-of-area businesses, including a marina and dentist’s office.

During the semester, each group of one to four students met with the business owner and developed a plan, taking into account market analysis, target market, marketing objectives, current strategies and budget.

The finalized plans were presented to the class on Tuesday, April 29. Although many of the businesses already have marketing strategies in place, the students’ plans will be forwarded to their clients for information and possible use.
