Sweet Briar will host its sixth annual Creative Writing Conference for undergraduate students April 3-6 in the College’s Elston Inn Conference Center.
A student assistant and an intern at Mary Helen Cochran Library are working to preserve Sweet Briar’s history for generations to come. Using the open-source web publishing platform Omeka, Nicole Epperson ’14 and Rebecca Thomson have been scanning and uploading photographs dating back to the College’s earliest days.
Encaustic paintings inspired by specimens in Sweet Briar’s biology department and the Sweet Briar Museum will be on display at the College. “Cabinet of Curiosities, The Sweet Briar Suite: Recent Encaustic Paintings by Leslie Van Stavern Millar” opens with a reception and gallery talk by the artist at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in Babcock Gallery.
Sweet Briar voice instructor Marcia Thom-Kaley and arts management director Ursula Kuhar will star in an upcoming Opera on the James production of Mark Adamo’s “Little Women.”
Sweet Briar’s Babcock Fine Arts Center has been under construction lately — in a good way. Thanks to a $30,000 grant from the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, the theater is adding a new ticket booth in the lobby, as well as technical and sound booths in Murchison Lane Auditorium.
