Blue Ridge landscapes by regional female artists are at the heart of two upcoming exhibitions at Sweet Briar College this fall. “Anne Hanger: Landscape Abstractions” opens at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, with a talk and reception in Babcock Gallery, followed by “In the Shadow of Paul Mountain: E. Hunt Barrett’s Views of Sweet Briar” on Thursday, Oct. 22, in Benedict Gallery.
Sweet Briar College will celebrate Founders’ Day Weekend on Friday, Sept. 25, and Saturday, Sept. 26. In addition to the traditional walk to Monument Hill, the College also will invest Phillip C. Stone as its 12th president.
Sweet Briar College is excited to welcome A.P. “Bun” Perkinson as vice president for alumnae relations and development.
During Opening Convocation on Wednesday, Sweet Briar College awarded the first Nancy Godwin Baldwin Scholarships to several students.
On Wednesday afternoon, one day after it was supposed to close forever, Sweet Briar College emphatically celebrated its 110th Opening Convocation. Students beamed as the many returning — and some new — faculty members marched into a jam-packed Murchison Lane Auditorium.
The new Alumnae Alliance has presented a proposed mission statement for comment. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 16.
In July, Sweet Briar welcomed Monica Dean as director of media, marketing and communications, following Christy Jackson’s departure earlier that month.
Shortly after being elected to the College’s newly formed Board of Directors, Tom Connors was asked to instead serve as vice president for finance and treasurer for Sweet Briar. Connors previously held the post from 1986 to 1995.
Attorney Nancyellen Keane ’78 has been appointed vice president for administration and general counsel of Sweet Briar College.
