Sweet Briar School Record Broken at ODAC Championships

Radford, Va.—The Sweet Briar Vixen Swim Team started Day 1 of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships (ODAC) with a very strong start against their conference opponents at Radford University. Current standings after today’s events have the Vixen swim team in third place in a field of eight.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay event the Vixen relay team of Melissa Simpson (’11/Madison Heights, Va.), juniors Hayley Hill (Southampton, Bermuda)and Hannah Hesser (Richmond, Va.), and first-year teammate Charlotte Greenwood from Wyndmoor, Pa. combined their efforts to break a school record of 1:42.86 and placing third in the ODAC final on Friday night.

In the 500-yd freestyle event, Hannah Hesser placed 4th and was named to the 2nd All-ODAC Team. Her time in the event was 5:20.92.

The same relay team of Simpson, Hill, Hesser, and Greenwood placed third in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:14.17.

Vixen swimmers Melissa Simpson and Charlotte Greenwood both swam the 50-yard freestyle and placed 6th and 7th respectively.

4-Bridgewater College: 71 points
5-Randolph College: 64 points
6-Guilford College: 56 points
7-Hollins University: 49 points
