Record swimmer scores repeat ODAC honors

| October 30, 2013

Just two months into her first semester, swimmer Megan Monahan ’17 is making waves at Sweet Briar. After breaking three school records Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference meet, leading Sweet Briar to defeat Greensboro College 151-100, Monahan was named to the ODAC Swimmer of the Week Honor Roll for the second time this semester.

During Saturday’s swim meet, Monahan set a new Sweet Briar record for the 50-meter backstroke, swimming the first leg of the winning 200-meter medley relay team that included sophomore Margaret Raymond and first-years Mary McDevitt and Mollie Smith in the day’s first event. Monahan’s time broke Elizabeth McKnight’s mark set in 1984. Three events later, Monahan shattered the Sweet Briar 100-meter backstroke record of 1:11:13, set in 2011, with her time of 1:09:39. Monahan completed her winning streak later in the meet, setting both school and pool records in the 200-meter backstroke. Her time of 2:28:03 bested the College record of 2:33:09, set in 2007, and the pool record of 2:29:33, attained in 2003.

The Vixens will swim again at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Randolph-Macon College.
