The YWCA of Central Virginia’s Sexual Assault Response Program announced that it has chosen Sweet Briar House as its 2015 Landmark Holiday Ornament.
It wasn’t exactly the usual crowd clustered inside the protective wall of the Fletcher-Williams family cemetery atop Monument Hill for the 2015 version of Sweet Briar’s Founders’ Day.
Neither the threat of rain — which had materialized sporadically throughout the morning — nor the thunderous winds that blew through the Quad could have stopped Sweet Briar College from celebrating another, once unlikely, Founders’ Day and the investiture of Phillip C. Stone as its 12th president.
On a Friday afternoon in early September, the student-run steering committee for Sweet Briar’s new leadership program CIEL met for the first time in Gray 306. CIEL stems from the French word for “sky” and stands for “creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership.”
On Tuesday, Sweet Briar College President Phil Stone spoke with National Public Radio affiliate WHRV’s Cathy Lewis on a Headlines edition of her show HearSay, a locally produced public affairs radio call-in program that discusses issues important to the Hampton Roads area.
