Caps to Careers: Class of 2012 Hits the Ground Running!
Only three months after graduating from beloved Sweet Briar, the swans of ’12 waste no time in living up to their motto, “Actions not words.” From William and Mary’s School of Accounting to the U. of Essex, the freshly named alumnae are traveling far and wide to change the world. One woman in particular, Katarina Allen, has ventured to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to receive TESOL certification via LanguageCorps. During this training, she teaches at the International School in Phnom Penh. She will later travel to China to complete a one-year teaching contract, educating children from ages 4 to 18. She’s quite excited for her journey in both Cambodia and China, and those interested are highly encouraged to follow her on her adventures via her blog.
Success and happiness can also be seen sprouting closer to Sweet Briar, as June 1 found alumna Victoria Bradley Gentry saying “I do” to Jesse Gentry (Longwood ’12), her fiancé of two years and high school sweetheart, in Suffolk, Va. Sarah Melvin ’11 served as maid-of-honor, Jordan McIntire ’11 served as a bridesmaid, and Khristian Salters read scripture during the ceremony. Simone Morris ’11, Hilary Bowie, Chiquita Sharp ’14, Eleftheria Treklas, Lydia Marsh, Emily Jones, Martha Schley Kemp, Kelly Mosher, Brook Watts, Caroline Heltzel, Lauren Babineau, Rachel Lasky, Carolyn Hicks, Tiffany Hunter, Caitlin Daniel ’15 and Peggy Hoy McFadden ’74 also attended the wedding. In July, Victoria and Jesse moved to Lynchburg and they now attend Liberty U. School of Law to pursue law careers with a Christian foundation. For Victoria and all other members of the newly graduated Class of 2012, we congratulate them for the achievements already accomplished so soon after beginning this new chapter in their lives.
