Jennifer Jones Collins is enjoying the last few months left in Germany with her husband and son William (10 mos.). This summer they’ll most likely be moving to Fort Polk, LA. It’ll be their 4th move in 4 years! In Sept., Jennifer was able to fly to VA to visit Jessica Mercier Andryshak and her baby girl, Jordan. Victoria Chappell Harvey is enjoying her last few mos. in Japan before moving to England this spring with her husband. They’re scheduled to live in England for 4 yrs. and look forward to visitors! 2013 is an exciting year for Kit Robertson Gonzales and family (Patrick, VMI ’03/’08, and Xander, 2). They’re being posted to Amman, Jordan, for the Dept. of State for 2 years, so if you happen to be in the Middle East between now and summer 2015, please let them know! They’ll have a guest room and would love visitors from home!
Erin M. Dennehy Kopczyk and husband are awaiting the birth of their 2nd child, due 3/2/13. They’re counting down the days until they get to meet him/her (it’s a surprise)! Son Jack is 20 mos. Erin plans to quit her job to stay home full time and can’t wait to focus all her attention on her family, especially while her babies are small. The time goes so fast. She hasn’t been back to SBC since graduation, but thinks often of its beauty and hopes to get back.
Melanie Stine will be finishing up her Ph.D. in environmental geography in 5/2013 and will be starting as an assistant professor at the U. TX San Antonio beginning in Aug. She still has her dog, Annie, who has been a tolerant companion through almost 6 years of graduate school. And with her first class notes since graduation, Anel Avila provides a short summary of the last few years: Post-SBC she was a government goon for 4 yrs. working in water quality. She was too poor, so she quit. Then she became a corporate cat at Aetna for one year. It wasn’t exciting enough, so she quit. Following that she decided to make like Peter Pan refusing to grow up and became a traveling tart at brothels all over the world. Kidding! At least about the tart part. She’s currently living and working in Thailand, fully enjoying the lack of adult responsibility. Here’s to an amazing 3-0!
Julie Drake says that this year has gotten off to a great start for her. She got engaged in Feb. to an amazing GA boy, Mike Jamal. After a fall wedding in CA, they’ll relocate to Atlanta. She’s excited to move back to the east coast! Speaking of exciting, Cara Cherry has been traveling the globe, saving critters and taking names—the last year included trips to Costa Rica and Thailand; and in between she’s staying busy with her residency at U of MN, looking forward to seeing Ms. (soon Mrs.) Melissa Massy who is eagerly counting down the days until her upcoming nuptials in March to the handsome Ashley Powell. The 2 will remain in Denver until fall, when Ashley’s new job in the Army will relocate them to Monterey, CA. Melissa is excited to see several SBC girls at her wedding including Julie Drake, Lauren Martin Pinion, Tabitha Dixon Ward, Kerri Faust de Monsalve, Cara Cherry and Nicki Brandt. I, Nicki Brandt, accepted a year-round position with GA Dept. of Natural Resources as a Marine Mammal Technician, so I’m now living in Brunswick, GA, quite the change from the Pacific Northwest. I’m miss the food and culture of the northwest, but am planting a backyard garden and slowly adjusting to life back in the south (heat! humidity!) My fall travels included a trip to Maui, where I saw my first spinner dolphins as well as many endemic Hawaiian birds and fell in love with the hiking and waterfall spotting along the road to Hana; I also had the chance to visit with Melissa Massy and Julie Drake during another moving cross country road trip. Anyone thinking of attending Homecoming 2013? If you’d be interested in having a c/o 2006 meet-up at Reunion, please let me know.
