Facebook page: SBC Class of 1981—We have 44 members!

May Carter Barger is packing her bags for a weeklong visit to Jill Steenhuis ’80 and oil painting in Aix, France. May writes “I’m so excited I can hardly stand it! I’ll try to remember to send you a photo of a painting or of us artists in the field! Daughter Josie (17) is a senior this year, so we’re very busy with college visits and applications. Son Ben (15), 9th grade, is on the varsity basketball team so we are already heading to 6:45 a.m. practices! My husband’s glass fabrication business is picking up steam as this economy hopefully continues to recover.” In addition to college visits and early morning practices, May is going through the “learning to drive” challenge with her kids.

Elaine Arozarena continues to split her time between N. Y. and Madrid, Spain. Elaine says that her goal is to find a new career path and move back to N.Y.C. full time. She writes “I am on some boards for some nonprofits and very busy trying to get some new ventures going. My husband Carlos (Spanish), retired some years ago, but is very active as a historian, a Chevalier of Malta and also with some interesting international projects. My family is still in Mexico City doing well.” Elaine stays in touch with Wendi Wood, Sandra Rapaccioli ’80 and Wendy Weiler ’71.

Mary Kate Ferguson is living in Baltimore and writes that she “got back into horseback riding last spring with fellow classmate and co-president Brendy Reiter Hantzes. I have been taking lessons ever since and loving it all over again. It took me back to my first experience with riding 31 years ago to satisfy a P.E. credit at Sweet Briar.”

Susan Graham Campbell is living and working in Philadelphia. She writes “I had a great time on a riding trip in Carmona, Spain, in early July and then went to my first away horse show (Saugerties, N.Y.) in late July. Ben was brave and made me look good in the Adult Maiden Equitation and pre-adult divisions. I on the other hand was a nervous wreck, but had a blast. My daughter, Sarah (26) has moved back to the Philadelphia area and is living in Malvern and working at Kimberton Whole Foods after almost seven years in N.Y.C. It’s really nice to have her close since we get to see each other much more regularly. She is educating me on diet and organic eating, and I have to say many of her suggestions have been good for me!” Susan enjoys staying connected to SBC friends through Facebook and asks friends to keep posting and sending messages!

Lynn Croft Reeves and husband, Jack, are still living in Hanover, Va. Lynn writes, “I enjoy playing tennis and I am a volunteer at my church. Our son Henry (19) just began his first year at VMI where he is playing football and wrestling for them. Savannah (17) is a senior in high school. This past May I got to see Naomi Weyand Smith and her daughter Emily. It was such a pleasure!”

Deborah Donigan Bullett (Ashburn, Va.): Robert and I have been empty nesters for the last two years. Xavier is graduating from Randolph Macon Coll. in Ashland and Jax (Jacquelyne) is a sophomore at SBC. Enjoying my job which allows me travel to fun places.

Hope Keating is still living in Tallahassee, Fla. She and her fiancé, G.W. Harrell, are looking forward to their upcoming spring 2013 wedding.

For so long I have written how things are the same in Annapolis, but now they are different since my older daughter Mary (18) has left for the U. of Del. She is loves it and lives on a coed hall, so different from SBC. She likes her professors and says that everyone is very friendly. It has been three weeks since we dropped her off, but it seems like forever. We are looking forward to Parents Weekend in Oct. Lizzie (15) is a sophomore and working hard. She has given up field hockey and just tried out for the school play and is waiting to hear. She is chomping at the bit to get her learner’s permit…I am not. Didn’t I just get through this?

A note to everyone, with each issue of the magazine, I get a new set of email addresses from SBC. I send out the request and still, many of them bounce back to me. Also, twice I have written letters to everyone with some results. However, email seems to be the best way to reach you. PLEASE contact SBC and give them your correct email address. Thanks and take care.
