Application: Semester and Year-Long Programs in Paris and Nice
Applications are accepted from sophomores who will be juniors in France, or first-semester juniors, both men and women, in good standing at any accredited four-year American or Canadian college or university.
Candidates for admission are expected to have at least two years of pre-college French and two full years of college French, normally including one or more literature, language or civilization courses beyond the intermediate level, or the equivalent. This requirement should be met by June of the sophomore year, and candidates should be studying French during their whole sophomore year. A course in French or European history is also recommended. A B average is required, both overall and in college French courses. Students who do not meet all of these requirements may still be accepted upon strong recommendations from their French professors and college administrators.
Application for admission to the Junior Year in France is made on the official form available at any of the following sources:
- You can download the application as a pdf document and submit via USPS (Junior Year in France, Sweet Briar College, Sweet Briar, VA, 24595) or fax (434) 381-6283.
The application is submitted through the Academic Dean of the applicant’s college or the administrative official charged with approving study abroad.
Due to deadlines for admission to French universities, students are urged to submit their completed application as soon as possible after the end of the first semester, and no later than March 15th for full-year and for fall semester enrollment, and October 15th for spring semester enrollment. Students will be informed of acceptance as soon as possible after those dates. Late applications will be considered on a space-available basis.
There is a $50 non-refundable application fee, which may be submitted via personal check with your application. You may also pay online using debit card, credit card or e-check (please select “2. Application Fee” from the drop-down menu and type “Junior Year in France” in the “other” box below).
