Nice University Courses
The following list of courses offered in 2012-2013 at the Université de Nice-Sophia Antipolis is not exhaustive. We limited ourselves to courses we observed personally or were recommended by professors whose courses we attended. Whether the course is given in first or 2nd semester is indicated. Please note that there is no guarantee that these precise courses will be offered in 2013-2014, although similar courses will certainly be offered.
Courses marked with UEL are in some ways comparable to our General Education courses. They are open to students of all disciplines, and evaluations are by « contrôles continus », with final evaluations before Christmas in the Fall, and in the beginning of May in the Spring. Sometimes there is an oral component to the final evaluation. Some courses offered as regular courses (cours fondamnetaux) in a program can also be listed as UEL. In this case, they tend to be larger lecture courses.
- 2012-13 PDFs (in French) of approved University classes, includes semesters offered, class schedules, and descriptions. We will continue to add to this list as courses are confirmed.

Please contact JYF if you are interested in taking a class in the sciences. This is only a sampling of courses (at the most elementary levels), in order to give you an idea of the offerings and the contact hours required. The UFR Science has a slightly different calendar than the other UFRs, and contact hours per course are larger, but we have taken account of these factors in the SBC JYF calendar. In the sciences, final exams take place before Christmas in the Fall semester, and in the second part of May in the Spring.
Life Science (Biology and Biochemistry)
Department of Earth, Environment, and Space
Institute of Business Administration
Campus Saint Jean d’Angély (ATTENTION: because of weekly shifting of “emploi du temps” these courses will probably not be appropriate for SBC-JYF students in Nice, unless the system changes, of course…)
Faculty of Law, Political Science, Economics and Management
Law and Political Science courses will take place on Campus Trotabas, Economy and Management courses at Saint Jean d’Angély campus. Final “contrôle continu” for Fall semester courses take place before Christmas; for Spring semester courses they are in the beginning of May. The semester counts 12 weeks, and most courses have 30-33 contact hours. If needed there is a possibility of taking the course for only 20 hours/semester (you will attend and be evaluated on only 20 hours; instead of 30 hours). Presence in class is checked by the professor and required. These courses are “cours magistraux” and take place in medium-size auditoria.
Studio Art, Music and Other Performing Arts
Studio art classes in music, dance and theater are offered for credit as regular University of Nice courses (sometimes they take place at the Conservatory of Nice or at other locations). Please consult the list of recommended courses and let Resident Director know as much in advance as possible if you are interested in taking one of these studio art classes so that she can contact the instructors.
If you prefer to take a dance or music class for recreation only, there are several dance studios in town, as well as private music teachers whom the program can recommend. There are also private theater studios.
To attend classes in painting, sculpture, drawing, photography or film, you must enroll in one of the following cultural associations. Consult the websites to see which courses might interest you.
