Additional Program Information

Focusing on the history and culture of the Middle Ages and early¬†modern period, this program’s core classes cross the central disciplines of art history, English and history. In addition, students often select relevant courses from classics, philosophy, music, French, Spanish, religion and theater. Many qualifying courses also fulfill Sweet Briar’s General Education requirements.

This 18-credit (six course) minor stresses foreign-language study and strongly encourages students to study abroad.

Medieval and Renaissance studies is flexible enough to combine with nearly any major. Students have majored in environmental studies, biology, Spanish and music. Students can expand the area of study into a self-designed major, concentrating on either medieval or Renaissance studies.
