Colloquia

Every year the Honors Program selects a concept — a word or phrase — to examine and to discuss across academic disciplines. In Honors seminars, colloquia and informal lunch-table discussions, we invite the campus community to consider the different meanings attached to a word or phrase when viewed through the different disciplinary perspectives of the sciences, the arts and the humanities.

This year the Sweet Briar Honors Program invites the College community to think about the concept of "Value." In lectures, in discussions of the common reading selection, The History of Money: from Sandstone to Cyberspace, and in Honors classes, Sweet Briar students, faculty and visiting scholars will examine this concept through the different lenses of the humanities, the arts and the sciences. Join us in the coming months as we contemplate the idea of "Value" from a variety of perspectives spanning the liberal arts spectrum.
