French Heroes and their Myths

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. A study, through literature, of French historical figures who have had an impact on people's imagination. The choice of heroes in the fall 2013 semester will include women who have shaped, influenced, or impacted history in some way. We will look at the literary expression of such mythical charcters as Joan of Arc and Camille Claudel in plays, poetry, novels and essays, paintings, sculpture, music, and films. May be counted toward the major or minor in French if written assignments and examinations are done in French. III.O, V.2, V.5
