Sweet Briar offers onsite medical care two days a week through Blue Ridge Medical Center and anytime at BRMC’s Amherst location. Other community partners include Centra Medical Group in Amherst.
Blue Ridge Medical Center
Throughout the school year, Blue Ridge Medical Center will operate a mobile unit on campus Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5 to 9 p.m. Pre-scheduled appointments will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., with walk-ins welcome from 7 to 9 p.m.
BRMC will provide primary care, women’s health and lab services, as well as referrals for behavioral health, x-rays, physical therapy, nutrition counseling and other specialists.
Students are welcome to schedule appointments on Saturdays at BRMC’s location in Arrington or anytime at its Amherst location (shared with Horizon Behavioral Health).

Centra Medical Group — Amherst
Centra Health is a nonprofit regional health care system offering a wide range of primary care services at a brand-new facility nearby.
Appointments are required for routine medical care such as physicals and wellness visits. Same-day appointments are available if you are sick. CMG – Amherst is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Mental Health Counseling
All mental health counseling is provided by Horizon Behavioral Health. Counselors are on campus and available for appointments on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Students may schedule appointments through an online portal (coming soon) or by calling 434-946-2316 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students who are already seeing a therapist may ask to speak to that person directly. First-time callers should ask to speak with Christina Ferrell.
The cost for the services may be covered by your health insurance — please check your policy. Sweet Briar will work with students who may need further assistance on a case-by-case basis.
