A broad education enhances students’ understanding of each specialized area of intellectual or artistic endeavor — whether creative writing, performing or visual. The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree offers instruction across disciplines in the context of a liberal arts education.
While students in the program focus on a primary and secondary artistic discipline, they collaborate with other students, faculty and visiting artists across all disciplines. The result is a rich understanding of the creative process and the challenges that confront contemporary artists.
Sweet Briar also is adjacent to the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, a retreat for working artists. Our close relationship with the VCCA and its residents deepens students’ skills and hones their ability to interpret and conceptualize ideas. Regular interactions with the writers, visual artists, and performers in residence is a distinctive component of our program.
Admission into this program is based upon a competitive jury/audition process.
