Yes, course evaluations are very important to the quality of teaching at Sweet Briar and they make a difference in the planning and presentation of the curriculum. Course evaluations are also used by administration when considering a faculty member for promotion or tenure, and in some cases can be used by institutional or program accreditations.
Yes, course evaluations are completely anonymous. There is no way that the Faculty will be able to identify which students made individual comments unless you identify yourself in the comments portion of the evaluation. Your unique username and password are only used by the system to identify which set of course evaluations you need to fill out.
The Course Evaluation System Administrator will send out an e-mail with the unique username and password that you will need to login to the Sweet Briar College CoursEvalTM site. Once logged in you will simply need to look for the course for which you wish to evaluate and click on “Take Survey.”
When you get to the end of your course evaluation and click “submit,” the site will then take you back to the landing page. If you want to confirm that your survey was submitted you can click on “Completed Surveys” and it will show you a list of all of the surveys that you have completed and submitted.
No! Instructors will not be able to see the results of the evaluations until after all grades have been submitted to the Registrar.
CoursEvalTM stores all survey responses from the time that they are first completed until after grades are reported to the Registrar. Faculty will not have access to reports for a given term until after all final grades have been submitted.
In the event that the course is taught by more than one instructor the survey will reflect this. All course evaluation surveys are organized so that course-related questions are first followed by instructor-related questions and then any department/program or instructor custom question sets. When a course has multiple instructors, the instructor questions will be repeated for each instructor. Please remember to complete the instructor questions for each of the course’s responsible faculty members!
If you are tired of getting reminder e-mails to complete your course evaluations, then fill out your course evaluations! :-) After you have filled them out you will stop receiving reminder e-mails.
If you come across a question that you cannot answer or do not want to answer simply skip it. CoursEvalTM will allow you to submit the evaluation with that question left blank.
Yes. In the event that you make a mistake on the course evaluation you can contact the Course Evaluation System Administrator who can then allow you to make the necessary changes. These changes can only be made while the survey completion period is open; once the period has ended no changes to the survey can be made.
Yes, CoursEvalTM saves the progress you have made in your evaluation automatically. When you wish to complete your course evaluation simply log back in, click “Take Survey”, and it will bring you back to the point at which you last left the survey. When you are finished filling out the survey simply click “Submit.”
Your thoughtful and candid feedback regarding courses and instructors is very important to the quality of teaching at Sweet Briar. We value your opinion and your comments make a difference in the planning and presentation of our curriculum.
This is completely unacceptable and should not happen. Should you feel pressured by an instructor either not to fill out an evaluation or to provide dishonest feedback you should feel free to contact either the Course Evaluation System Administrator or the Dean’s Office as soon as possible. The College takes seriously any allegations of undue instructor pressure.
You may direct any further questions to the Course Evaluation System Administrator, Bradley Reichek (
