October Explore Chemistry Weekend

Ever wondered what makes your environment tick? Chemists use a variety of tools to explore and uncover the mysteries of our world — analysis of plant material, soil samples and animal tissue allows us to better understand our environment, develop new drugs and monitor pollution. Join us Sept. 22-23, 2017 or Oct. 13-14, 2017, for an introduction to chemistry through one of two hands-on projects with a Sweet Briar chemistry professor. You’ll spend time collecting samples from the campus environment, extracting the chemical components and analyzing them with state-of-the-art instrumentation. This event is for high school girls in their sophomore, junior and senior years.
