Diversity Programs

  • Collegiate School Teaching is for college and graduate students of color interested in independent school teaching. Students from all majors are sought. Applicants selected for the program receive a stipend, free housing and travel reimbursement.
  • First Generation College Student puts together as much clear, useful advice as possible for all the challenges kids as first generation college student face.
  • The Walters Art Museum offers paid summer internships for diversity in the arts. Interns may work in one or more divisions of the museum including education, development, public relations, information technology or curatorial.
  • The Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts offers two diversity initiatives: the Josie A. Bass Career Development Program for African American students and the Los Padres Internship Program for Hispanic/Latino students. Internship areas include Accounting, Human Resources, Development, Communications & Marketing, Information Systems and more. Free housing and transportation are provided if necessary.
  • JP Morgan's Launching Leaders Scholarship Program has been named one of Vault Inc.'s Top Ten Internships. Black, Hispanic and Native American students with a 3.5 GPA who are interested in financial services are eligible to apply. The program includes life-changing internship opportunities as well as scholarships of up to $10,000 a year.
  • The Nascar Diversity Internship Program places deserving students from racial minority groups in a 10-week summer program designed to introduce them to the world of NASCAR and the exciting career opportunities available throughout the motorsports industry.
  • Humanity in Action sponsors six summer programs on minority and human rights issues in Europe and the United States. All academic majors who are actively seeking new perspectives on minority issues are invited to apply. HIA pays virtually all of the costs of participation.
  • AFSCME/UNCF Union Scholars Program is a 10-week summer field placement during which interns participate in a union organizing campaign in one of several locations across the United States.
  • INROADS This organization's mission is to develop and place talented minority youth in business and industry and prepare them for corporate and community leadership.
  • Sponsors for Educational Opportunity runs a career program which now partners with over 40 firms and offers 400 plus summer internships in accounting, corporate law, information technology, investment banking, philanthrophy, etc., in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Hong Kong.
  • Goldman Sach's Diversity Internships and Scholarships offers several opportunities both in the U.S. and abroad for black, Hispanic and Native American students, students with disabilities, and women.
  • The American Association of Advertising Agencies' Multicultural Advertising Internship Program (MAIP) has helped jumpstart the careers of more than 1,600 African-American, Asian-American, Latino-American, Native-American, multi-racial and multiethnic aspiring advertising professionals.
  • The Newhouse Graduate Newspaper Fellowship and Apprenticeship for Minorities is a highly competitive 30-month program that provides two generous awards to minority students who have majored in subjects other than journalsim as undergraduates.
  • Microsoft Corporation encourages undergraduate students from groups currently underrepresented in the field of computer science to pursue technical degrees. Microsoft Scholarship recipients receive a scholarship to cover one academic year as well as a salaried internship for 12 weeks.
  • The Resource Guide of Summer Opportunities for Minority Undergraduate Students has more than 100 fellowship, internship and research program listings.
  • The Management Leadership for Tomorrow Career Prep Program is a comprehensive 12-month program designed to prepare minority juniors for fast-track entry-level jobs. Skills training includes: one-on-one career coaching and planning, exclusive exposure to leading companies, national networking with young professionals, and four all-inclusive leadership development trips.
  • T. Howard Foundation is recruiting diverse students at the undergraduate and graduate levels for internships with industry partners including FOX, NBC Universal, Showtime, HVBO, ESPN and XM Radio. Interns are paid $10-12/hour for a minimum of 8 weeks in locations nationwide.
  • The Latino Fellowship Program offered through the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University is designed to increase the representation of public health professionals serving Latinos in the US. One to two fellowships are offered each year for students pursuing their MPH through the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health at Columbia.

The Congressional Internship Program provides participants with a placement in a congressional office, community service, leadership development and more. Housing and transportation are covered.
  • Hispanic Outlook.com: A search site providing information about employment opportunities within the higher education field as well as in institutions that grant the largest number of degrees to Hispanic students
  • HispanicBusiness.com: A job center resource site for Hispanic and Latino students
  • HispanicSurf.com: aims to connect everyone with everyting Hispanic. It is an excellent resource for Spanish speakers looking to use their language skill in the workplace.

  • The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers: Sets out to help Hispanic students and professionals in the engineering field
  • LatPro: A site that connects Spanish and Portuguese speakers (who also know English) to great jobs nationally and internationally
  • Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science: This site includes information and publications about continuing education, as well as a listing of organizations who have contacted SACNAS with new job openings.
  • LatCareers.com: Online Latino job board with thousands of jobs nationwide, as well as a Latino career fair calendar with more than 200 Latino career fairs annually in 90 U.S. cities

  • The Institute of International Education website: Lists a plethora of resources for non-U.S. students, including the Freeman Assist Internship Program, which provides international students from select countries with scholarships to subsidize unpaid internships
  • The International Student City Career Center: Provides comprehensive career advice addressing the unique concerns international students face as they look for employment in the United States.
  • H1base.com: Visit this site for U.S. immigration details, H1-B visa information, as well as employment opportunities in the U.S. for foreign nationals.
  • H1visajobs.com: Features an online database of American employers that sponsor H1-B visa holders. The databases are broken down by industry and can be accessed for a fee.

  • Federaljobs.net: Describes hiring options, certifications and accomodations for students with disabilities interested in pursuing a career in the federal government
  • The Workforce Recruitment Program: Recruiters from federal agencies conduct personal interviews with college students with disabilities in order to generate a database of internship and full-time job seekers, which can be accessed by prospective employers. In the past decade, 1,900 college students with disabilities have been placed in temporary and permanent jobs nationwide. 
  • The Riley Guide: Lists several employment resources for individuals with disabilities, as well as job listings
  • Emerging Leaders: A highly competitive program that places college students with disabilities in fulfulling summer internships and provides them with leadership development opportunities
  • PeopleResources.org: A site connecting people with disabilities to personal development links, career resources, pertinent news, education resources and counseling services
  • recruitABILITY: Provides an online, targeted recruiting site that connects proactive employers with job seekers with disabilities
  • The National Business and Disability Council: The leading national resource on all issues related to the successful mainstreaming of people with disabilities into the American workforce. Their national resume database is provided free to qualified job seekers.
  • JobAccess: The site's goal is to enable people with disabilities to enhance their professional lives by providing a dedicated system for finding employment, including resume building and posting services, online application and more.
  • The Job Accomodation Network (JAN): A free consulting service that provides information about job accomodations, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the employability of people with disabilities
  • DO-IT CAREERS: Provides resources for students with disabilities to participate in work-based learning opportunities
  • Entry Point!: A program of the American Association for the Advancement of Science offering outstanding internship opportunities for students with disabilities in science, engineering, mathematics and computer science
  • Career Opportunities for Students with Disabilities: A consortium of universities, national employers and government agencies focused on career employment of college graduates with disabilities. COSD provides training modules and conducts a national conference each year related to the employment of persons with disabilities.
  • The National Coaltion for Students with Disabilities: A nonprofit, grassroots organization founded in 1995 to strengthen the legal rights of persons with disabilities and faciliate communication between student groups. NCSD provides information on employment, scholarships, telecommuting and internship and volunteer opportunities.
