Alumna Daughter Scholar Award

The Alumna Daughter Scholar award was established in 1974 by the Board of the Alumnae Association to honor an alumna daughter or granddaughter in either the junior or senior class who has demonstrated, while at Sweet Briar, the traditions of sound learning and social responsibility which have characterized the alumnae of the College since its founding. The student chosen will be named the Alumna Daughter Scholar.

If the student named Alumna Daughter Scholar is in need of financial aid, she will receive aid from the proceeds of the endowed fund. If she does not need aid, the proceeds will be awarded to another alumna daughter or daughters of any class and the Scholar shall receive a $250 credit at the Book Shop.

In recent years, eligibility for the Alumna Daughter Scholar award has expanded to include not just daughters and granddaughters of Sweet Briar alumnae, but also nieces, sisters, cousins, etc.

The Alumnae Association Awards Committee reviews the academic records of students eligible for the award, as well their participation and roles in the life of the Sweet Briar Community. A selection is made in the spring of each year, and the award is given to the recipient at Opening Convocation.
