JYF ScholarshipSweet Briar College and the Junior Year in France program offer scholarship assistance for incoming, new students who want to major or minor in French and who have an interest in studying abroad on Sweet Briar's JYF program in Paris, France. The scholarships are worth up to $2,000 per year, and are renewable for each of your four years at Sweet Briar as long as you maintain a 3.0 grade point average and major or minor in French. Scholarship amounts are awarded by the Director of JYF in consultation with the Dean of Admissions, and are based on a student's high school overall grade point average, her grades in high school French courses, and her SAT/ACT scores. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 3 years of high school French to be eligible, with preference for the scholarships being given to students who have at least 4 years of French. [Transfer students are eligible for this scholarship program, with awards also taking into consideration your college course work in French.] To be considered for the JYF scholarship, students need to apply for admission to Sweet Briar College and complete the JYF Scholarship Application form by February 1 (or May 1 for transfer students). Applicants for the JYF scholarship must submit with their application form a short essay (100-125 words) in French about a memorable travel experience or favorite book. Also required is a letter of recommendation from a French teacher who has taught you in your junior or senior year of high school (or your first year of college). Letters of recommendation submitted with your application for admission can be used for this purpose - please make sure to check the appropriate box on the application form.
