Ken HuusDean of Admissions![]() khuus@sbc.edu Hometown: Evansville, IN Recruitment Areas: Students from Colorado Educational background: I graduated in 1993 from Earlham College (in Richmond, IN) with a B.A. in chemistry. I received my M.B.A. with a focus in Quality and Process Improvement from Miami University (Oxford, OH) in 2000. Additional/Special recruitment responsibilities: As the Dean of Admissions, I am ultimately responsible for all recruitment activities in the Admissions Office. I have a great staff with expertise, energy, and excitement and my responsibility is to provide the support and resources necessary for them to be successful. A few thoughts on Sweet Briar: Sweet Briar College is an amazing place that every young woman should consider. The educational product is second to none, and the outcomes achieved by our graduates are remarkable. Students are supported, challenged, and pushed to learn, grow, and develop in ways they might not be at other colleges and universities. This allows our alumnae to be highly successful leaders in every conceivable profession. Come for a visit to campus and let us show you how a Sweet Briar education can get you to where you want to go. Favorite place on campus: I particularly enjoy all of the walking trails around campus. My wife and I walk on campus every weekend (and many weeknights), and the beauty of this campus is breathtaking. With 3,250 acres to explore, we are constantly finding paths and vistas that become our "new" favorite. What I like to do in my spare time: I love to play golf, but I never seem to find enough time to become happy with my game. My wife and I enjoy working in our yard; mowing, tending to trees and flowers, and making our home beautiful (I think this is what keeps me from playing golf!). And I do enjoy supporting students in their endeavors - athletic contests, theater productions, concerts, etc. A few words of advice to prospective students: I encourage high school students to explore all college options without any pre-conceived ideas or notions. Choosing a college is the most important decision to this point in your life (and maybe the most important decision for the rest of your life), and you shouldn't do what's easiest or most convenient - do what's best for you. Complete a personal inventory of things or characteristics that will allow you to be most successful academically (class sizes, learning environment, resources and opportunities) and then go about finding a college that best fits those criteria. There are thousands of colleges in the country - do your homework and find the best match for you. |
