Sabrina DeVincenzoAssistant Director of Admissions![]() sdevincenzo@sbc.edu Hometown: Chase City, VA. Recruitment Areas: Northern Virginia and the Richmond area; Washington DC; Maryland; and US territories. Additional/Special Recruitment Responsibilities: I work with International students as well as US citizens living abroad. Educational/Admissions background: I graduated in 1999 from Mary Baldwin College with a BA in Psychology. I immediately began working in higher education and previously have worked at a coed public institution as well as another private women’s college. A few thoughts on Sweet Briar: As I learn more about Sweet Briar College everyday, I am truly amazed at the academic opportunities that are presented to students. The atmosphere at SBC is encouraging and engaging. Students work individually with their professors and advisors to exceed their own expectations. Because of this atmosphere students are able to customize their education to suit them. These opportunities are not only here at Sweet Briar College, but throughout the world. Students are encouraged to study abroad, have internships or do both at the same time! Our faculty truly want our students to succeed, and will do everything they can to help students do the best they can. Everyday, I am amazed by the sense of community that abounds on the campus of Sweet Briar College . Favorite place on campus: It is so hard to choose just one favorite spot on campus! However, one of my favorites is probably Prothro Hall. It houses the dining hall, café, bookstore, post office, along with many other offices. Since so many faculty and staff live on campus, it’s very possible to run into everyone while checking your mail or grabbing a bite to eat. Prothro Hall definitely shows that Sweet Briar is more than just a college; it is a true community . What I like to do in my spare time: I try to spend as much time as I can with my family. Whether it’s playing with the dog (Australian shepherd) or getting in the car and taking a drive around the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. I also enjoy reading a good book, and of course shopping! What girl doesn’t love shopping, especially if it’s for a new purse or a pair of shoes! A few words of advice to prospective students: After many years in admissions, my advice to students is to look at colleges with an open mind. Students should throw out the ideas of stereotypes and name branding. Just because it’s a big name school doesn’t mean that it’s the right place for everyone! I try to encourage students to visit the schools to which they are considering applying. The school might look great on paper, but the best way to determine if the school is right for you is to visit campus. If a student doesn’t feel comfortable in the first 5 minutes then she’s not going to be comfortable for the next 4 years! |
