Application Requirements for M.Ed. Students

The Master of Education in Differentiated Curriculum and Instruction is a coeducational degree program for college graduates with a teaching license and a minimum of three years of teaching experience who seek professional advancement. Applicants must submit the following items for admission to the Master of Education program:

  1. Completed application – See below
  2. A cover letter
  3. A current résumé
  4. Two references
  5. All college transcripts
  6. Current teacher license
  7. $40 application fee — pay online or make check payable to “Sweet Briar College” and mail to:

Application Requirements for M.A.T. Students

The Master of Arts in Teaching is designed for men and women with a bachelor’s degree who do not hold a teaching license in Virginia or any other state. It is a full-time program that prepares candidates for licensure in one year (June-May). Applicants must submit the following items for admission to the Master of Arts in Teaching program:

  1. Completed application – See below
  2. A cover letter
  3. A current résumé
  4. Two references
  5. All college transcripts (need overall GPA of 2.75 and 3.0 for any EDUC courses)
  6. Passing scores or proof of:
    • Praxis 2 in area you are seeking licensure
    • Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA)
    • Elementary Education: RVE (Reading for Virginia Educators)
    • Certificate CW55691: Child Abuse and Neglect: Recognizing, Reporting and Responding for Educators
    • Current CPR/first-aid course
    • Current tuberculin skin test from doctor
  7. If you are currently accepted in the Sweet Briar teacher education program, you will also need to provide a copy of your certificate of completion for the online tutorial from the Virginia State and Local Civic Education Module.
