I joined the Admissions Team in 2011 after graduating from Sweet Briar College with my degree in Anthropology. People are fascinating to me and, after traveling extensively, it was a great opportunity to learn more about what makes different cultures and people unique.
I was born in Michigan and moved to Florida when I was two. I lived there for the next 16 years and miss the beach on a daily basis. When I was 18, I moved to London, England to attend a drama school and pursue stage management and technical theatre. London is absolutely the greatest city and my dream is to move back there one day and live on a houseboat on the Thames. When I graduated from drama school, I knew that I wanted to travel more. I got a job working for Celebrity Cruises as a Production Stage Manager and sailed through most of the Western Hemisphere, across the Atlantic, and around the Mediterranean. Eventually, I got to the point where I realized that I wanted a more stable lifestyle and decided to return to land and go to college. And here I am!
I’m now working for an institution that I love in a job that rarely feels like a job where I help young women and their families through one of the most stressful and biggest decisions of their lives!
Why I Love Sweet Briar:
The first time I drove onto Sweet Briar’s campus, I fell in love. Even now, on an almost daily basis the beauty of this place overwhelms me. When I met my admissions counselor that first day, I was amazed by how much she truly wanted to help me navigate the college process and help me succeed. After three years here, I have realized that everyone who works at Sweet Briar shares that sentiment. Even though I came here as an adult, I can see the numerous ways that I have grown and transformed into a confident woman ready to take whatever life throws at me. That is what Sweet Briar College is: a supportive, safe community for young women where they can explore different paths, make mistakes, find out what is important to them, and in four years to go change the world.
Advice to Students:
Choosing a college is a big decision in your life, there is no debating that. There are a number of ways to make sure you make the right choice. First, make it YOUR choice. Accept input and advice from your friends, family, and advisors, but you should make the final decision. Second, the college you choose will be your home for four years, so do your research and visit your top colleges. While you’re on campus meet with the faculty in your area of interest, talk to students, take a tour, and even try to spend the night. You’ll be able to tell if it is somewhere you are comfortable or not. Finally, it is not the end of your life if you realize you have chosen wrong; so don’t lose sleep over it! Remember, I’m here to help you figure out if Sweet Briar is the right choice for you so get in touch anytime.
